If you want to know a little about me, here is some information. Writing
music in my avocation, not my profession. It is something I love to do. (I
currently work as a librarian at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa).
I have
always had an interest in writing music, although I haven't had a great deal
of formal education in that area. Most of what I have learned about
composition has come from studying on my own. I am currently taking some
undergraduate music classes at Graceland.
The music on this site is religious in
nature - I find my greatest satisfaction comes in
creating works which reflect my love for the Lord and my faith as a member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
At the moment I am most interested in writing in choral
music. I love the sound of choirs, especially for sacred music. I
enjoy writing multiple parts for voices. You will find that
there are a number of settings of the psalms and other scriptural passages
here. I was once talking with a friend who was trying to assist others in
memorizing Psalm 91. He asked me if I could set it to music to make the
memorizing easier. I took up the challenge and the result is on the
site. I found it such an enjoyable task that I started doing it for
other psalms and then other parts of scripture. I have now found the
scriptures to be an almost infinite source of wonderful texts.
As far as music I enjoy listening to, I love anything
beautiful. It is difficult to define what is beautiful in music, but when I
hear it, I recognize it. There is no doubt in my mind that beautiful music is a divine
gift and I am very thankful for its influence in my life. |
